World Famous Classic Coin-Op Videogame
& Pinball Tournament Celebrates
Eighth Year
It’s time once again for the
annual International Classic Videogame
& Pinball Championships to be
held at Funspot in Weirs Beach, NH.
The dates for the 8th annual tournament
are Thursday, June 1st through Sunday,
June 4th, 2006. Located in Weirs Beach,
New Hampshire, Funspot is the world’s
second largest arcade and is home
of The American Classic
Arcade Museum, a 501c3 non-profit
organization dedicated to restoring
and displaying vintage coin-operated
amusements.
Each year, players from
across the United States and around
the world gather for four days of
classic game competition, and the
fun of playing their favorites in
the largest collection of classic
arcade games still operating in an
arcade setting, in the world. In prior
years, championship-caliber players
have come from Australia, Canada,
England, Israel and Finland to attend
this fun-filled event.
There will be a $250
prize for the overall winner of each
of the four contests including the
Monochrome Challenge, Classic Color
Challenge, the Pinball Challenge and
the Ladies Challenge. The Ladies Challenge
was created to bring more women into
competitive game playing – a
sport that has been predominately
attended by men over the years. In
addition, a $25 cash prize will be
awarded to the winner of each daily
Mystery Game Tournament.
The “Player of
the Year” award, which was introduced
to the tournament in 2003, will combine
the scores from the Monochrome, Color
and Pinball challenges to find an
overall tournament champion. This
player will earn a place of honor
on the Funspot wall of fame. Players
must compete in all of the selected
tournament games to be eligible for
the “Player of the Year.”
The games used for all
of the competitions will not be announced
until the start of the tournament
on Thursday, June 1st . This is to
provide a fair playing field for players
who don't have access to those games
throughout the year. Only scores for
the tournament games will be logged
at this year’s tournament. In
the past, any and all scores for games
not in the tournament were logged
and submitted to Twin Galaxies for
entry into their scoreboard. To preserve
the integrity of scores, the Funspot
staff will not be recording these
extra scores on non-tournament games.
Players wishing to submit high score
and world record attempts on games
other than those in the Monochrome,
Color, Pinball and Ladies Challenge,
should do so using the accepted format
for submitting scores to Twin Galaxies.
Players may videotape
their game play for high score verification.
All other videotaping and/or filming
at this event is strictly prohibited.
The 8th Annual Classic
Videogame & Pinball Championships
is co-sponsored by Funspot and the
American Classics Arcade Museum. The
event will be held June 1st through
June 4th, 2006. Tournament hours are
Thursday Noon-10pm, Friday and Saturday
10am-11pm and Sunday 10am-5pm. Admission
is $30 and includes 175 tokens. Registration
will be at the door only. Funspot
